Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using Culleva (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Culleva. The Service is designed for university students and people in higher education. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to use the Service.
3. Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password and account credentials secure.
- You must not create multiple accounts to evade limits, restrictions, suspensions, or bans.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
- Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised: email support@culleva.com.
4. Acceptable use
You must not, and must not attempt to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Upload content that infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of any third party.
- Upload content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, or discriminatory.
- Upload malware, viruses, or any content designed to harm the Service or other users.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach any security or authentication measures.
- Scrape, harvest, or mass-extract data from the Service.
- Use the AI features to abuse, generate spam, generate malicious content, or in volumes that materially exceed normal study use.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Where conduct is serious, unlawful, threatens the safety or security of others, or involves suspected academic misconduct connected to an institution, we may report it to appropriate authorities or the relevant institution where lawful and appropriate.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you upload to Culleva (assignments, files, study materials, citations, messages, whiteboard content, and similar). We don't claim ownership of your work.
By uploading content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, store, copy, transmit, display, and process that content for the purpose of providing the Service to you and the people you share it with (for example, group members on a group assignment). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, with one exception noted below.
Shared group contributions on account deletion: where you have contributed to a shared group (chat messages, files uploaded to group assignments, whiteboard edits, completed tasks), we retain those contributions in anonymised form when you delete your account so other group members keep continuity of the shared workspace. Your name, email, and avatar are replaced with "Deleted user" or similar. See the Privacy Policy for full details. If you want full erasure of your group contributions instead, mention this in your deletion request.
You confirm that you have the right to upload anything you put into the Service and that your content does not infringe anyone else's rights.
6. Shared and group content
Some parts of Culleva are collaborative. If you join or create a group assignment, other group members may be able to view, edit, export, download, delete, or otherwise interact with content shared in that group, including tasks, files, links, messages, meetings, whiteboard content, and AI chat content. Group features in Culleva are intentionally "any group member can act" rather than owner-only, so don't assume your name on content protects it from being changed or removed by another member.
Only share content you are allowed to share and are comfortable making available to that group. We can't control what other members do with content once they have access to it (including taking copies outside Culleva via screenshot, download, or export).
7. Voice and screen share
Culleva includes live voice channels and screen sharing for group collaboration. If you use these features, you are responsible for what you say, show, or share.
- Don't record or distribute others without consent: do not record, screenshot, stream, or redistribute another person's voice, image, screen, or personal information without their permission and without complying with applicable law.
- Don't harass or harm: do not use voice or screen share to harass, threaten, intimidate, or expose another person's private information.
- Watch what you share: when sharing your screen, be aware of notifications, open tabs, or other private information visible to other participants. Anything you make visible may be screenshotted or recorded by other participants outside our control.
Culleva does not currently record or store live voice or screen-share media. If we add session recording in the future, we will update these terms and the Privacy Policy before that feature ships.
8. AI features and academic integrity
Culleva includes AI-powered features (AI Review, AI Study Coach, Citation Checker, Whiteboard AI chat). These are study aids, not authoritative sources.
- Output may be wrong: AI-generated summaries, flashcards, quizzes, citations, and feedback can be inaccurate, biased, or out of date. Always verify against authoritative sources before relying on the output for graded work.
- Your responsibility for academic integrity: many universities have policies that prohibit or restrict AI use in assessment. You are responsible for knowing and following your institution's policies. Culleva is not designed for, and you must not use it for, academic dishonesty (passing off AI-generated content as your own when prohibited).
- AI Review is feedback, not marking: the indicative mark range and rubric assessments produced by the AI Review feature are informational. They are not your actual mark, and we don't guarantee any correlation with the mark your institution will give.
8.1 No professional advice
Culleva does not provide legal, academic, professional, medical, financial, or institutional advice. Outputs from the Service (including AI-generated summaries, citations, quiz answers, and feedback) are general study assistance. You are responsible for checking requirements with your course, tutor, lecturer, university, or other authoritative source before relying on the Service for any decision that matters.
9. Third-party links and external resources
The Service lets you add and access links to third-party websites or resources (for example, Google Docs, OneDrive, Figma, Notion, Dropbox, or Office 365 documents through the Files section, and any URL submitted to the Citation Checker's URL-fetch feature).
We are not responsible for third-party websites or resources, including their content, availability, security practices, or privacy practices. You are responsible for checking that you have permission to access and share any external resource you add to Culleva, and for complying with the terms of those third-party services.
10. Subscriptions and payments
Culleva is free to use, with sensible daily AI limits. We also offer an optional paid "Pro" plan at $9.99 per month that raises the daily AI limits and unlocks additional features such as audio narration of study summaries. The free plan remains available indefinitely.
You can upgrade to Pro from the Billing section of your profile. The Pro subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from the Stripe customer portal (reachable from your profile), and you keep Pro access until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
Payment processing is handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's hosted checkout and never touch Culleva's servers; we do not receive or store your full card number.
Refunds: nothing in these terms overrides your rights under Australian Consumer Law. For services with a major problem you may have the right to cancel and receive a refund or to keep the contract and seek compensation. For minor issues we may offer a partial refund or service credit at our discretion. Contact support@culleva.com with refund requests.
We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice; the change will apply to your next billing cycle. Significant changes to subscription terms will be notified to you in advance with the option to cancel before they take effect.
11. Service changes, limits, and early launch
Features may change: we may add, change, suspend, or remove features from time to time, especially during the early launch period. We will try to avoid materially reducing core functionality without notice, but we do not guarantee that every feature will remain available permanently. New AI providers, features, and changes to free or Pro plan limits may be introduced as the product develops.
Usage and rate limits: we may apply usage, storage, file size, upload, message, AI request, or rate limits to keep the Service reliable, prevent abuse, and keep costs sustainable. These limits may differ between free and paid plans, and we may adjust them with reasonable notice. Hitting a limit may temporarily block certain actions until the limit resets or you upgrade.
Early-launch reliability expectations: during the early launch period, some features may be experimental, incomplete, or subject to change. We may adjust limits, fix bugs, or change workflows as the product develops. Voice/screen share, AI features, and plan limits should be treated as developing rather than fixed.
12. Backups and your responsibility for important work
Culleva should not be your only copy of important work. You are responsible for keeping independent backups of assignments, drafts, files, citations, study materials, and any other content you upload or create in the Service.
We back up our infrastructure for disaster recovery, but backups are operational and not a substitute for your own copies of work that matters to your studies, your degree, or your career.
13. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account yourself from the Danger Zone in your profile settings, which permanently removes your account and personal information. If you'd prefer, you can instead email support@culleva.com from the email address linked to your account and we will action the deletion for you. We handle deletion in accordance with the Privacy Policy, which includes how shared group contributions are anonymised (see Section 5 of these terms and Section 8 of the Privacy Policy).
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, if doing so is needed to protect the Service or other users, or where required by law. Where reasonable and appropriate, we will give you notice and an opportunity to address the issue.
14. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties beyond those implied by Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Specifically, we do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
- AI-generated output will be accurate, current, or fit for any particular purpose.
- The Service will be free of vulnerabilities or compatible with all your devices.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy under Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify us for reasonable losses, costs, and claims arising from your unlawful use of the Service, your serious breach of these terms, or your content infringing someone else's rights.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when our practices change, when new features are added, or when laws change. We will post the new version here with an updated "Last updated" date. For significant changes (for example, changes to your obligations or your rights) we will notify you in-app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect.
If you don't agree to a change, your remedy is to stop using the Service and delete your account.
